Lakkos Migerou is a mountain shelter located on the northern slopes of Mount Psiloritis, the highest mountain in Crete, Greece. It is situated at an altitude of 1700 meters and serves as the starting point for the most popular hiking trail to the summit of Mount Psiloritis, Timios Stavros, which stands at 2456 meters above sea level. Psiloritis Mountain is a popular destination for hiking, camping, and rock climbing. The mountain is also home to a number of historical and archaeological sites, including the Ideon Cave, which is said to be the birthplace of Zeus, the king of the gods in Greek mythology. It is part of a UNESCO Global Geopark and is home to a variety of unique flora and fauna, including the endemic Kri-Kri wild goat.

Anogeia, also spelled Anogia, is a beautiful and traditional mountain village located on the northern slopes of Mount Psiloritis. It is known for its well-preserved traditional architecture, with narrow cobbled streets, stone houses, and colorful balconies. The village is also famous for its rich history and culture, and its strong sense of identity. The locals are known for their warm hospitality and their unique customs and traditions, which have been passed down through generations.

Morning Pick up:

Pick-Up: We will collect the participants from their hotel in the morning.

Bus Drive: approx. 1.5 - 2 hours

1st stop: Lakkos Migerou

Our journey starts from the vivid city of Heraklion. As we leave the urban landscape behind, we'll embark on a scenic drive through charming Cretan villages. We'll pass by Tylisos, Anogeia, Zoniana, and Livadi, each offering a glimpse into the island's rich culture and traditional architecture. We will reach at Lakkos Migerou, nestled amidst the slopes of Mount Psiloritis, where we'll find the welcoming shelter ready to serve as our base for further exploration.

2nd stop: Psiloritis Mountain

Our adventure truly begins at Lakkos Migerou. From here, we'll embark on a challenging yet rewarding hike, taking roughly 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach the summit. Atop the mountain stands the iconic stone church of Timios Stavros, a testament to both faith and the breathtaking views that stretch across the entire island of Crete. Here, we'll have plenty of time to capture stunning photos, soak in the panoramic vista, and simply relax in the face of this natural wonder. After basking in the glory of the peak, we'll begin our return back to Lakkos Migerou.

3rd stop: Anogeia Village

To conclude our adventure, we will visit the charming village of Anogeia. This traditional Cretan gem will be the perfect place to unwind and refuel after our hike. Whether you choose a delicious lunch or a refreshing coffee, Anogeia's warm hospitality and local flavors will be the ideal way to cap off our exploration of Psiloritis and its surrounding treasures.

End of the tour Return to resorts:

After boarding the vehicle, participants will be transported back to their respective hotels.

  • Comfortable Hiking Gear: Wear comfortable hiking shoes, bring a hat, and apply sunscreen, as the sun can be intense.  Individual Trekking Equipment is also suggested.
  • Ample Water and Snacks: Carry sufficient water and snacks for the hike. Staying hydrated is essential, especially during warm weather.
  • Fitness Level: Be prepared for a challenging hike. Ensure you are physically fit for the journey.
