Phaistos, also spelled Phaestos, is an ancient archaeological site located in the south-central part of Crete. The drive from Heraklion takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the island along the way. Phaistos is one of the most important Minoan palaces in Crete, dating back to the Bronze Age (around 1900-1700 BC). The palace is known for its intricate architecture, its well-preserved frescoes, and its still-undeciphered Phaistos Disc, a clay disc found at the site that is inscribed with a unique writing system.

In the afternoon, you can head to Matala, Komos or Kalamaki, which are small villages located a short distance from Phaistos, each offering its own unique charm and attractions.
